There have been a lot of headlines about Villanova's Jay Wright possibly making the leap to the NBA after winning a national championship earlier this week. The Suns even made him their top priority.

But what about a coach who won a national title not just this year, but a total of 11 times in his career, including the last four seasons.

Yes, we're talking about the legendary Geno Auriemma of UConn women's basketball.

Apparently, there is some interest around the league in Geno's services, and those feelings have been reciprocated.

From Sean Deveney of Sporting News:

NBA executives have taken notice, and sources tell Sporting News that the feeling is mutual. “Geno’s a great coach, he knows players and he knows Xs and Os,” one source with knowledge of Auriemma’s thinking said. “I think he’d like to try the NBA eventually, either head coaching or part of a staff at first. Not tomorrow, but I think it is a matter of when and not if. Coaching is coaching, and the guy can coach.”

This would be a huge leap for Geno. The college game, for men and women, is played at a much different speed than the NBA, and the styles contrast quite a bit. On top of that, the program he's built at Connecticut is so strong and so prestigious that competitors usually don't stand a chance agains them. In the NBA, recruiting in free agency can only take you so far.

If anybody can make this transition work though, it has to be Auriemma. His leadership and fundamental coaching abilities are top notch; as the one NBA executive simply stated above, “coaching is coaching.”
