The WNBA announced Sunday that 23-year-old Breanna Stewart of the Seattle Storm was named league MVP. This is a well-deserved honor for the former UConn star. In her third year in the WNBA, Stewart averaged 21.8 points and 8.4 rebounds per game.

Liz Cambage was the runner-up and Elena Delle Donne rounded out the top three vote-getters. Cambage and Delle Donne made great cases to win MVP, but Stewart's dominance along with Seattle's success was more than enough to secure Stewart's place atop the league.

Stewart led her squad to the best record in the WNBA, and the Storm are set to play the Phoenix Mercury for a chance to advance to the WNBA Finals. Game 1 of their best-of-five series is Sunday night.

Stewart is the linchpin for Seattle and the No. 1 option on offense. After winning MVP, she now hopes to capture her first WNBA championship this year.

Some of Stewart's colleagues in the NBA took to social media to congratulate Stewart on her accomplishment. Former MVP Kevin Durant congratulated Stewart for joining the exclusive club.

The WNBA is gearing up for an exciting pair of semifinals matchups. Stewart's Storm will face Diana Taurasi's Phoenix Mercury, while Delle Donne and the Washington Mystics take on Tiffany Hayes and the Atlanta Dream.

The semifinals are packed with star power, and no star has shined brighter this season than Stewart.
