According to Shams Charania of Yahoo Sports, the NBA has granted a $6 million disabled player exception to the Brooklyn Nets, as the team has been badly depleted after losing Jeremy Lin to a season-ending injury.

Lin sustained a ruptured patella tendon in his right knee during the Nets' home opener of the season against the Indiana Pacers. Lin drove to the basket, crashed down, and stayed on the floor for quite some time.

During that moment, Lin was visibly devastated as he immediately knew that he got hurt badly. He uttered the words “I'm done.” before breaking into tears.

Last season, Lin only played 36 games for the Nets, but he averaged 14.5 points, 3.8 rebounds, and 5.1 assists per game. It was a shame to see Lin, one of the absolute good guys of the NBA, go down too early and that bad.

He is not the only person on the Nets roster that is missing time, though. D'Angelo Russell has missed more than 30 games this season because of a knee injury. However, he is expected to be back really soon for Brooklyn.

This disabled player exception the Nets have received from the NBA may be the blessing the team needs to turn things around. It isn't too late for the Nets to put forth their best fight. Trading season is beginning to heat up and the exception they received from the league office gives them more wiggle room financially.

During Lin and Russell's absence, Spencer Dinwiddie has thrived in the backcourt, averaging 13.1 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 6.5 assists per game.

But if the Nets really want to make something out of their season, they will need more pieces, especially because the East is no longer as weak as it used to be.
