According to a report from NetsDaily.com, the Brooklyn Nets have assigned guard D'Angelo Russell to their G-League affiliate team, the Long Island Nets.
Russell, now 21 years of age, is scheduled to participate in five-on-five drills with Long Island on Monday, then later return to Brooklyn. The former No. 2 overall pick in the Draft has been recovering from a knee injury, but it seems he's nearing a return.

In his 12 games played for Brooklyn this season, Russell has turned in averages of 20.9 points on 46.3 percent shooting from the field (29.5 percent from beyond the arc), 5.7 assists, and 4.7 rebounds.
“He played a pretty high-intensity three-on-three, full-court,” Nets head coach Kenny Atkinson recently told NetsDaily.com, referring to Russell. “So it's a buildup. I can't give you a timetable, but it’s trending positive: contact, three-on-three, picks, defense. It's a daily discussion with the performance team, and when he's ready, they'll tell me.”
“They had him on a very regimented schedule, not one hour a day, not two-hour days, but four, five hours a day of treatment and correctives and weight-lifting,” Atkinson continued. “In a weird way, it's got him on a great schedule, and at his age, it could turn out to be a good thing in terms of development and establishing his habits.”
The Nets have dropped four of their last five games. Their first shot at redemption — albeit without Russell — comes on Monday night, as they're scheduled for a matchup against the New York Knicks in what most hoops fans know as “The Battle of the Boroughs.” Tip-off is set for 3:00 p.m. EST.
