New Orleans Pelicans big man Anthony Davis spoke about his trade request for the first time in front of the media, a week after he told the team he had no intentions to re-sign with the team.

The 25-year-old told reporters the reason for his request and expressed urgency for making the most of his talent and ability while he is still young.

“I just feel like it is my time,” said Davis, according to Stefano Fusaro of ESPN. “Gave the city, organization, fans, everything I felt like I could do. I don't know how long I'm going to play this game. People's careers are short. I felt like it is my time to move on.”

The Pelicans could potentially trade Davis before the Feb. 7 trade deadline, but they have been loud and clear that they will operate through their very own deadline and won't be rushed or strong-armed into making a deal that is not convenient for the long-term health of the franchise.

The Los Angeles Lakers are all systems go in hopes to trade for him before the deadline, given how they could face a formidable enemy in Danny Ainge and the Boston Celtics if they let this opportunity pass, allowing for their longtime historic rivals to get in the mix.

The Celtics have a cornucopia of assets and draft picks readily available to deal for Davis, but will be forced to wait until July 1 to put him and franchise star Kyrie Irving together under the same roster.
