New Orleans Pelicans head coach Alvin Gentry says Anthony Davis has been cleared by team doctors to practice with the club.

Anthony Davis suffered a sprained left index finger on Jan. 18 and has been out of action ever since. The superstar big man has requested a trade from the Pelicans, but he told reporters last week he would play for New Orleans again this season if the franchise doesn't trade him by the trade deadline.

Alvin Gentry, however, still won't commit to Davis playing again this season for the Pelicans.

Davis has an extensive injury. If the Pelicans wait until the summer to move him, it would be a huge risk for the franchise if AD plays again this season. If Davis were to suffer a serious injury which requires surgery, his trade value would go down and then New Orleans wouldn't be able to get a grand haul for him.

In 41 games this season, Davis is averaging 29.3 points, 13.3 rebounds and 4.4 assists per game. The 25-year-old Chicago native is shooting 50.8 percent from the floor, 32.5 percent from beyond the arc and 81.2 percent from the free-throw line.

Davis leads the NBA in player efficiency rating at 31.0. The Brow is second in the league points per game and fourth in rebounds.
