Anthony Davis asked the New Orleans Pelicans for a trade earlier in the week, but with the Feb. 7 trade deadline just eight days away, it does not seem all that likely that the Pelicans will be able to move Davis this season.
Still, that does not mean fans will definitely be seeing the big man play for New Orleans again.
On Wednesday night before the Pelicans' game against the Denver Nuggets, Davis was conspicuously absent from the team's intro video, an indication that New Orleans and the 25-year-old may have cut ties completely.
Davis has been out with a finger injury that will keep him sidelined for a little while longer, but even when he gets healthy, Davis might still be in street clothes.
It has not been definitively decided that Anthony Davis has played his last game for the Pelicans, according to one source close to the situation. But the source said it is a scenario under consideration in the event New Orleans does not move Davis before next Thursday's deadline

Davis sitting out the remainder of the season makes plenty of sense for both sides.
For Davis, he avoids the possibility of sustaining an injury. For the Pelicans, there is that same benefit, as an injury to Davis would certainly compromise his value. Plus, it would be an awkward situation to have Davis playing when everyone in the world knows he will be wearing a different uniform come next season.
Davis, who played his collegiate basketball at the University of Kentucky, was originally selected by New Orleans with the first overall pick of the 2012 NBA Draft.
Since then, Davis has led the Pelicans to the playoffs just twice, losing in the first round to the Golden State Warriors in 2015 and falling to the Warriors in the second round last season.
