The New Orleans Pelicans are definitely one of the most peculiar teams in the NBA. Unlike most playoff-bound teams, the Pelicans don't have a superstar point guard and they don't necessarily push the pace and get out on the floor.
The Pelicans strongly rely on their frontcourt superstars Anthony Davis and DeMarcus Cousins to carry the load for them offensively. While Cousins attacks the paint and crashes the glass, Davis destroys teams from the perimeter. It's been an effective strategy for New Orleans. However, the Pelicans are in a familiar situation now.
Against the Rockets several weeks ago, the Pelicans lost Cousins to a season-ending Achilles injury. While this injury could hold potential consequences for the team down the road, the Pelicans are still in position to make the postseason, ranking seventh in the Western Conference.

In fact, against the Lakers on Wednesday night, the Pelicans showed off their offensive potential, setting a franchise record for most points in a game with a total of 139 in the win.
The Pelicans also set the franchise record for most points scored in a single quarter with 46 total points on Wednesday. These accomplishments prove that the Pelicans have adapted to playing without Cousins and are moving on to running a high-octane offense.
As a matter of fact, this may be just what they need. If the Pelicans grab a lower postseason spot, they may take on the Warriors or the Rockets. With a slow offense, any team would be at a disadvantage against those two Western Conference powerhouses. Though, with this performance, the Pelicans are letting everyone know that their offense is indeed dangerous.
