Zion Williamson's NBA Summer League debut for the New Orleans Pelicans was cut short after he was ruled out in the second half of their match against the New York Knicks.
Williamson, the first overall pick of the New Orleans Pelicans in the 2019 NBA Draft, had to sit out the remainder of the game after the halftime break. The former Duke University standout reportedly took a knee-to-knee hit in the first half of the contest.

According to Cassidy Hubbarth of ESPN, the injury is not expected to be a serious one. However, the Pelicans decided to rule him out for the rest of the game for precautionary measures, knowing that they cannot afford to lose their precious rookie for a lengthy period because of a Summer League injury.

Williamson's highly anticipated debut lasted for only nine minutes. The 18-year-old forward finished with 11 points on 4-for-9 shooting to go along with three rebounds and a steal. He also wowed the crowd when he out-muscled and stole the ball from Knicks sophomore Kevin Knox, which led to a thunderous dunk.

It remains to be seen whether or not Williamson will be made available in their next assignment. After the Knicks, the Pelicans will go up against the Washington Wizards on Saturday.
