It has been a long season for Enes Kanter, but it appears that opportunity may be knocking at his door in the very near future.
According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, Enes Kanter will likely hit the buyout market soon after the trade deadline as the New York Knicks have not been successful in finding a trade partner to move his contract.
As the Knicks run out of time to find a trade for center Enes Kanter and his $18.6M expiring deal, discussions on a contract buyout are expected to begin as soon as the deadline passes on Thursday at 3 PM ET, league sources tell ESPN.

Kanter will be happy to find himself in a new situation where he will have a chance to get on the court. He has been vocal recently about frustrations with the Knicks organization and the lack of playing time he has been receiving.
For the Knicks, this was likely due to their goal to obtain the best possible draft lottery odds- something easier done when your productive veterans aren’t taking the court.
There will definitely be multiple teams eyeing Kanter on the buyout market.

In his 25.6 minutes per game with New York this season he is averaging 14.0 points, 10.5 rebounds, and 1.9 assists. He doesn’t offer much at all defensively but is one of the better post scorers and rebounders in the league.
It will be interesting to see where he ends up and what he prioritizes in choosing his next team.
He will have options to play for teams that can offer him plenty of playing time and a more featured role, or he can try to sign with a team that may not have as many minutes for him but will allow him to compete in the playoffs.
Kanter hasn’t played in the postseason in since 2017 when he was still with the Oklahoma City Thunder.
