The New York Knicks are reportedly “hell-bent” on keeping veteran small forward Marcus Morris, according to Zach Lowe of ESPN.
Morris becomes an unrestricted free agent after this season ends and believes he can secure a long-term deal with the Knicks once the free agency period starts on June 30.
Morris signed a one-year, $15 million deal with the Knicks this past offseason. He originally agreed to sign with the San Antonio Spurs, but backed out of his deal. Morris also parted ways with his agent Rich Paul of Klutch Sports.
In 42 games this season for the Knicks entering Monday, Morris is averaging 19.4 points, 5.5 rebounds and 1.4 assists. He’s shooting 44.0 percent from the field, 43.8 percent from beyond the arc and 81.6 percent from the free-throw line.
Morris enjoys living within a short distance of family in Philadelphia. The Knicks won't make the playoffs this season, but that's not stopping Morris from enjoying living in New York and putting up good numbers in a contract year.
Article Continues BelowA few contenders are interested in Morris, most notably the Los Angeles Clippers. The NBA trade deadline is on Thursday. We'll see what the Knicks, who have had trade talks with the Charlotte Hornets regarding Julius Randle and a few other players, end up doing with Morris.
