Even Tim Hardaway Jr. himself has a hard time believing it.
One of the newest New York Knicks signed a four-year, $71 million deal to return to the team he played for from 2013-15, his first two seasons in the NBA. Upon making the deal official, Hardaway Jr. had a pretty funny reaction, as told by ESPN's Pablo Torre via NBC Sports.
I was talking to somebody who would know about the Tim Hardaway Jr. scenario. Tim Hardaway Jr.’s first words after signing that contract: “Man, that’s crazy.”
That sentiment was shared by many when Hardaway Jr. agreed to the hefty contract. It's not a total knock on Hardaway Jr. and NBA fans are getting used to role players getting big pay days the last few seasons, but Hardaway Jr. has struggled even to maintain a consistent role at times.
He did see that change last season, playing 27.3 minutes a night with the Hawks while averaging 14.5 points on 35.7 percent shooting from deep. The Knicks will need more of the same and then some if Hardaway Jr. is going to prove he is worth $71 million.
