Hardaway Jr. is averaging 23.3 points per game — a career high. Apart from his scoring, he also chips in 3.5 rebounds per game and 2.9 assists. Though his father seems to be mincing his feelings, a previous interview reveals that he's proud that 26-year-old son is becoming the team's leader. Per Matt Schoch of The Detroit News, Hardaway Sr. said:
“He’s playing well, he’s being a leader out there on the floor,” Hardaway Sr. said. “He’s helping these young guys understand how to play and trying to win late games.”
However, despite his highlight play, his team lost to the Detroit Pistons, 115-108. Hardaway Jr. himself finished with 19 points and 6 rebounds. He was just 5-of-15 from the field but made it up by shooting a perfect 7-of-7 from the free throw line. Teammate Allonzo Trier led the team with 24 points, 10 rebounds, and seven assists.
The loss brings the Knicks' record to 7-15. They've lost seven of the last 10 games. To wrap up their November schedule, they'll head to the Wells Fargo Center to face the Philadelphia 76ers on Wednesday, November 28.
