Heading into this year's playoffs, Oklahoma City Thunder All-Star forward Paul George voiced much confidence in his play on the court. He was even given the moniker “Playoff P,” when describing his level of play when it comes to this time of the season.
George has proven to live up to that with his play on the court through the first couple of games in the series. However, Jazz fans during Game 3 gave the 27-year-old their own version of his dubbed nickname by chanting “push-off P” after a testy play early in the fourth quarter of Saturday's tilt.
The fans at Vivint Smart Home Arena simply found a way to poke back at the star forward with their only verbal jab to try and get George off his game. The Jazz had been able to get the best of the Thunder through that point in the contest leading by double digits early in the fourth quarter.
Although Utah has grabbed a slight hold in the series, leading 2-1 after three games, George has been a steady offensive contributor averaging 25.7 points on 45.6 percent shooting from the field and 48.4 percent from beyond the arc. This includes scoring at least 18 points and drilling at least three 3-pointers in each contest.
If the Jazz want to continue to stay ahead in the series, it will require them to limit the offensive effectiveness of George through the remainder of the series. The team has demonstrated to have the offensive balance necessary to get them through to the next round.
Heading into Game 4, it's clear that the fans will be ready to vocally jab at George when the opportunity arises with a catchy nickname already in place for them to chant. If anything, this should all make for a more intense contest in a pivotal matchup on Monday night.
