Carmelo Anthony has exercised the player option in his contract with the Oklahoma City Thunder. Upon release of the news, Melo sent out a message to his critics.

Via his own Instagram account, Anthony posted a photo, together with a caption probably addressed to his critics:

Anthony will be staying with the Thunder next season, as he decided not to opt out in his final year. He will be receiving a whopping $27.9 million for the 2018-19 season.

It was anticipated that Anthony would accept the player option. Opting out would mean entering the free agent market and see which teams can offer him the best deal.

And at this age, while Anthony is capable of producing good numbers, there's no team in the NBA that would match that type of money. It's definitely a smart move for Melo who's at the tail end of his career.

This is the second time this week that Anthony lashed out on his critics. Just a few days earlier, the 34-year-old sent out the photo below, with a caption directed to his haters:

Critics have been hitting on Anthony for the past few years. They feel that he seems content at not winning a championship like most of his contemporaries like LeBron James and Dwyane Wade.

His poor season with the Thunder gave critics more ammo. Last year, he logged in career lows of 16.2 points per game on just 40.4 percent from the field. Apart from which, he showed little-to-no chemistry with fellow superstars Russell Westbrook and Paul George.

It's turning out as a duel between Anthony and his critics. While Melo has been throwing shots at them in social media, it's a matter of wait-and-see if his piercing words can translate to a good showing on the basketball court.
