Like most NBA fans, Oklahoma City Thunder guard Hamidou Diallo was shocked when Russell Westbrook and Paul George were traded in the offseason. Diallo spoke on how the trades came out of nowhere for him, blindsiding him both times:

“No. No idea at all. That really hit home base. I didn’t know anything. And, I mean, it’s the NBA. That happens. Different players move, sometimes bigger players, sometimes small players. It’s the NBA; it’s a business and you’ve got to look out for yourself.”

To be fair to Diallo, the Paul George trade shocked the entire NBA world. George was an MVP candidate entering his second year of a four-year deal. No one expected the Thunder to move him. However, perhaps Diallo should've gotten a heads up considering he is a member of the team.

The Westbrook trade was anticipated, but still sent shockwaves through the NBA world. Few predicted he would be suiting up next to James Harden ever again in his career.

Regardless, Diallo now has the chance to show his skills more than ever. With George and Westbrook gone, there will be plenty of time for Diallo to play. He took a step last season and now has the opportunity to take another one.

The Thunder might not be a good team next season, but it will be fun to watch Diallo and their other young talent compete for pride.
