The Oklahoma City Thunder will sign veteran wing Scotty Hopson to a 10-day contract, according to ESPN's Royce Young:

This move comes in the wake of Alex Abrines' official departure from the team last week. The Spanish sharpshooter had played in just two games since Dec. 23 when the Thunder announced he was stepping away from the team indefinitely to deal with a personal matter. Though Oklahoma City offered no explanation for his release, ESPN reported that the decision was one mutually agreed upon by both the team and Abrines so he can focus on attending to the issue at hand absent the distractions of basketball.

Hopson went undrafted in 2011 after three seasons at the University of Tennessee. He spent the next three seasons playing overseas before signing with the Cleveland Cavaliers in March 2014, who subsequently sent him to the G-League (then known as the D-League). Hopson had a successful stint with the G-League's Sioux Falls Skyforce in 2014-15, but ultimately went back overseas until the Dallas Mavericks signed him to a 10-day contract last season.

The 6-foot-7, 204-pounder opened training camp with the Thunder last fall, ultimately being assigned to the G League's Oklahoma City Blue on Oct. 12 after failing to make Billy Donovan's final roster. Hopson has appeared in 25 games for the Blue this season, averaging 17.0 points, 4.6 rebounds, and 2.8 assists per game while shooting 55.1 percent from the field. He does little to replace the high-value skill Abrines brought to the table, though, shooting 34.1 percent from beyond the arc.

Deonte Burton, Abdel Nader, and Hamidou Diallo all figure to be ahead of Hopson in the Thunder's wing rotation behind MVP candidate Paul George and starting shooting guard Terrance Ferguson.
