Kevin Durant is expected to opt out of his commitment with the Golden State Warriors, but it’s only to work out with a new deal with the defending champions. We say that to point out that plenty of front offices are under the same presumption that Paul George and the Oklahoma City Thunder are merely going to copy that Durant-Warriors symbiosis, which is entirely different than the previous belief that the talented swingman is going to leave Oklahoma City following a premature playoffs exit, per Tim Bontemps of The Washington Post.
The prevailing opinion around the NBA when the Oklahoma City Thunder was eliminated in the first round of the playoffs was that Paul George would be headed elsewhere — likely the Lakers — as a free agent. But the prevailing opinion around the league now, in speaking with multiple teams over the past 48 hours, is that George is going to return to Oklahoma City this summer.
Paul George has been linked to the Los Angeles Lakers long before the Thunder reached the end of the road last season. Playing for his home city is truly enticing for George, but proximity to his neighborhood is far from the only thing he is considering.

Without clarity on LeBron James’ chances of going to the Lakers or if Los Angeles could land Kawhi Leonard in a trade with San Antonio, George might not be that enamored of donning Purple and Gold colors without another superstar to team up with.
Still, the door for George to join the Lakers, or any other team, remains open.
