Golden State Warriors forward Kevin Durant has six 50-point outings to his name after drumming up 51 points against the Toronto Raptors in an overtime loss on Thursday, yet this particular one bares close resemblance to one of his own favorite all-time performances with the Oklahoma City Thunder.
March 21, 2014 — the date itself is engrained in his head, as Durant was charged with the bulk of the scoring load without Russell Westbrook, after he aggravated a knee injury (much like he did without Stephen Curry and Draymond Green in uniform last night).
Kevin Durant scored 51 points at the Air Canada Centre against a Raptors team, that like Thursday night, had also gone up big early, as the soon-to-be MVP would ride a rollercoaster of streaks within the game — only to hit a game-tying three to force overtime.
That March game would reach double overtime, with an ice-cold Durant hittinh the dagger shot with only one second left with a deep pull-up wing trifecta to give the Thunder a 119-118 win.

“Yeah, it definitely did (feel similar). Very,” Durant told Anthony Slater of The Athletic. “Back in 2014, right? Felt like the same stats, almost, right?”
Durant posted 51 points on 15-of-32 shooting, 12 rebounds, and seven assists back with the Thunder, while drilling a nearly-identical, but more efficient 51 points on 18-of-31 shooting, 11 rebounds, and six assists on Thursday night.
“Also, just the way the game was going was similar with the ups and downs, especially for me,” Durant said. “I started off (Thursday night) shooting OK, then leveled off, missed my first two shots to start the third quarter, then I got hot, then I missed four straight to start the fourth. It was an emotional up and down game. That’s really what we like, as basketball players, that game within the game. Tonight was one of those nights.”
Much like in 2014, Durant also hit back-to-back threes to give his team a chance to go into overtime, doing most of the heavy-lifting in eerily-similar fashion — making this another memorable performance for the history books.
