The Orlando Magic have recently signed free agent guards Troy Caupain and Kalin Lucas prior to the start of their training camp. They are both expected to compete for a roster spot, and challenge the likes of Elfrid Payton, D.J. Augustin and Shelvin Mack. Terms of the deal were not disclosed per team policy.

Caupain went undrafted last June after spending four years in the NCAA with Cincinnati. However, he didn't give up on his NBA dream as he was signed by the Toronto Raptors to their Summer League squad, where he impressed enough to earn him the opportunity he now has. Lucas on the other hand already has six years of professional experience, having played in Greece and is a D-League veteran as well. He went undrafted back in 2011 after his stint with Michigan State.

As George Diaz of the Orlando Sentinel wrote in his piece recently, this will most likely be the path for both of them as their chances of cracking a roster spot are slim, given the loaded backcourt the Magic already have.
“The chances of either Caupain or Lucas sticking around for the start of the regular season would be challenging. A more likely option for both players is to play for the developmental team in Lakeland.”
