The Orlando Magic didn't get their man, but they got a pretty decent consolation prize despite their disappointment. According to Jonathan Givony of ESPN, the Magic had their sights set on Trae Young, but after he was selected prior to their pick, they decided to go with Mo Bamba. Givony goes on to remark that Bamba may turn out to be the best player in this draft.

Bamba and Young are completely different players, but they are both highly skilled with tremendous upside.

While Young dominated the perimeter at Oklahoma, Bamba was a force in the paint for rival Texas. Young led the nation in scoring and assists with 27.4 points and 8.7 assists per game. Bamba was no slouch himself, averaging a double-double with 12.9 points and 10.5 rebounds per game.

The Magic clearly wanted a dynamic point guard that can run the pick and roll that is so valuable in today's game. Unfortunately, they missed out on that kind of player, but that may have been a blessing in disguise.

Bamba is a freakishly athletic big with the ability to control the paint on both ends of the floor. The Texas product may be the next guy to join Kristaps Porzingis and Joel Embiid in the age of the “unicorn” in the NBA.

Both of these guys are evident of the incredibly deep draft class. It seems like with every player drafted, there are a few more taken right after with just as much talent and just as much upside.

They may be slightly disappointed at the moment, but years down the road they may be thanking their lucky stars.
