Philadelphia 76ers big man Joel Embiid will not play in his team's showdown with the Golden State Warriors on Saturday night, according to Keith Pompey of The Philadelphia Inquirer.

Embiid is dealing with tendinitis in his left knee and has not played since the All-Star Game.

76ers head coach Brett Brown revealed after the All-Star break that Embiid had been dealing with the knee issue for several weeks, a startling statement given the fact that Philadelphia had not opted to rest Embiid at all.

Not only that, but the center had also been nursing a back issue.

On the season, the 24-year-old is averaging 27.3 points, 13.5 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 1.9 blocks over 33.7 minutes per game while shooting 48.2 percent from the floor, 29.5 percent from three-point range and 81.1 percent from the free-throw line.

As a result, Embiid made his second straight All-Star team.

Embiid, who played his collegiate basketball at the University of Kansas, was originally selected by the Sixers with the third overall pick of the 2014 NBA Draft.

However, due to back and foot issues, Embiid sat out his first two NBA seasons.

He finally made his debut during the 2016-17 campaign, but he played in just 31 games before falling victim to a torn meniscus in his left knee, which knocked him out for the remainder of the year, which is why this recent knee issue is all the more concerning.

Embiid then played in 63 games last season, registering 22.9 points, 11 boards, 3.2 assists and 1.8 blocks across 30.3 minutes a night while making 48.3 percent of his field-goal attempts, 30.8 percent of his triples and 76.9 percent of his foul shots.
