Philadelphia 76ers forward Tobias Harris wants his respect. Harris sat down for an interview with Sam Amick of The Athletic, in which he revealed his frustration at the idea he is not capable of being a third star for the Sixers alongside Ben Simmons and Joel Embiid:

“Yeah, you know, that shit pisses me off,” Harris said, via Amick. “I ain’t even gonna lie. But I also kind of get it because that’s kind of been me my whole life. You know, I was a top-10 player coming out (of Tennessee in 2011), and I wasn’t on many draft boards like that in the beginning. Even now, it’s like if you look at those stats (this season), you would say, ‘Oh wow’ (but he remains under the radar). … But at the same time, the respect that I always care about is the respect between myself and teammates.”

The 28-year-old has certainly played like a star thus far with the Sixers.

Harris is averaging 20.6 points, 7.8 rebounds and 3.4 assists on close to 50-40-90 splits. His emergence as a more efficient wing scorer has been a major piece to Philly's 20-11 start.

Still, Harris is not widely regarded as a guy with star talent. He told Amick he thinks that's partially because he does not have the “hype” or name recognition commonly associated with guys often deemed to be stars.

Then again, the Sixers could care less about the perceptions of the general public. Harris is helping them win with his inside-out scoring and ability to crash the boards.

Whether Harris is considered a “star” or not won't really matter should he help Philly lift the Larry O'Brien Trophy at the end of the season.
