An anonymous assistant coach on the Phoenix Suns believes shooting guard Devin Booker will improve playing alongside point guard Ricky Rubio.
The Suns have been looking for a starting-caliber point guard ever since they traded Eric Bledsoe to the Milwaukee Bucks during the 2017-18 season. Rubio is one of the best passers in the game. His presence alone on the Suns will allow Booker to focus on scoring the ball instead of running the offense and scoring.
“We needed two things and we got them,” the Suns coach told Keith Smith of Real GM. “We need a veteran point guard who can set guys up and run a system. Ricky Rubio is that guy. I bet Devin (Booker) improves a ton just because Rubio will get him the ball in the right spots and on-time too. We also needed a big to push DeAndre (Ayton) and to do the dirty work. No one better at that than Aron Baynes. And Dario Saric and Frank Kaminsky give us different looks too. I like our options this year.”

Ricky Rubio signed a three-year, $51 million contract with the Suns. He averaged 12.7 points, 3.6 rebounds and 6.1 assists this past season with the Utah Jazz while shooting 40.4 percent from the field, 31.1 percent from beyond the arc and 85.5 percent from the free-throw line.
Devin Booker has established himself as one of the best young scorers in the league. He put up 26.6 points last season. The Suns are excited to see how lethal of a scorer Booker is going to be in 2019-20 with Rubio setting up the offense.
