Deandre Ayton had a monster performance for the Phoenix Suns in Game 3 against the New Orleans Pelicans, and it's thanks in large part to Monty Williams realizing his crucial mistake.
In Game 2 that saw the Pelicans tie the series with a 125-114 win, Ayton only had six shot attempts and made four to finish with 10 points for the Suns. Williams knew it's a massive error on his end not to give his big man enough opportunities to score, which is why he changed things up come Game 3.
With Devin Booker sidelined as well, it was the best chance to give Ayton more role on the offensive end. Sure enough, it worked wonders with the fourth-year big man finishing with 28 points on 13-of-20 shooting from the field. Ayton also had 17 rebounds, one assist, three steals and a block for an all-around display.

While Deandre Ayton has been overshadowed by Booker and Chris Paul in the Suns' hierarchy, he remains critical for their championship aspirations. With their top scorer out for the next two to three weeks as well, the team will be relying more on him to carry much of the offensive load.
By the looks of it as well, Monty Williams won't be making the same mistake of underutilizing Ayton again.
