The Detroit Pistons are fighting for a playoff spot, but they currently sit in 9th place in the standings, 2.5 games back of the Miami Heat who sit in the eighth spot. If they keep losing games like they did on Sunday though, they will be falling even farther off the pace.
They took on the Charlotte Hornets and were down 32-19 at the end of the first quarter, and 70-46 at the half. They did make a nice little run the 4th quarter, but they were down too much, and couldn't overcome the deficit, losing the game 114-98.
After the game, Andre Drummond was asked about the first half effort, and he wasn't pleased.
#Pistons Andre Drummond: "There was no effort when we came out of that first quarter. The second quarter again decided the game … Honestly, this needs to stop. We can't keep going games where we're down by 15, 20 before halftime and then try to make a fight to come back."

One of the big problems that the Pistons have had this year has been the play of the bench unit. They have squandered leads when the unit is on the floor, so even if the Pistons starters build up the lead, the bench usually gives it right back.
For the Pistons against the Hornets, they had four players that played at least 11 minutes fail to score one point.

Andre Drummond, meanwhile, had a double-double, scoring 14 points and grabbing 14rebounds in 32 minutes of action on the floor.

Now the problem in this game was mostly on the defensive end of the floor, but if the Pistons could get more production it might actually help improve their defense. Detroit allowed the Hornets go berserk from beyond the arc with Charlotte knocking down 16 three-pointers.
The next chance for the Pistons to figure out their first-half issues will be on Monday night when they travel to the Air Canada Centre to take on Kyle Lowry, DeMar DeRozan, and the Toronto Raptors. Detroit has won just three of its last 10 trips north of the border. The Pistons also went 5-5 in their last 10 games away from Motor City.
