Damian Lillard and the Portland Trail Blazers have dealt with a lot of adversity this season.
Just three days before the 2018-19 season began, longtime Blazers owner Paul Allen lost his fight with Hodgkin’s lymphoma and passed away. It was a loss that affected Lillard and the entire Portland organization deeply because of how beautiful a soul and person Allen was.
As if Allen's tragic death wasn't enough for the Blazers to overcome, starting center Jusuf Nurkic suffered a gruesome left leg injury at home against the Brooklyn Nets which ended his season. It was sight that was hard for the Blazers to see given how great a teammate and player Nurkic is.
But with the season almost over, the Blazers are still standing. Lillard, the best player on the team, cites “strength in unity” as the reason Portland has been successful this season.

This is probably the least up-and-down we have been for a long time. Every year since I’ve been here we’ve talked about consistency, and being able to sustain it. This year, we’ve done it.
“There’s a lot of strength in unity. There really is. You probably get tired of me saying that, us saying that, but it’s a real thing. It’s a real thing.”
As usual, Damian Lillard has been the driving force behind the Blazers' success.
The four-time All-Star is averaging 26.0 points per game, which ranks 10th in the NBA.
