Following the Portland Trail Blazers' series-clinching victory on Tuesday, Damian Lillard has shared his thoughts on the contentious end to Game 3, which saw Oklahoma City Thunder star Paul George go in for a last-second dunk attempt (that was not counted as it had come after the final buzzer) despite his team winning by 12.
Lillard admitted that he did not expect that from George.
“The way I took it, I didn’t expect that from PG,” Lillard told Chris Haynes of Yahoo Sports. “I thought he was going to just dribble it out, but then he dunked it. I was like, ‘Damn. Didn’t expect that from him.’ Maybe they needed to do something to motivate them, but I wasn’t tripping.”

George's attempt at an exclamation point at the end of Game 3 was indeed a bit off, considering how there is an unwritten rule against scoring when your team has already secured the victory. As Lillard said, perhaps George got a bit carried away with the moment, and wanted to give the Thunder and its supporters something more to cheer about following their crucial victory.
Nonetheless, it would be Lillard who would get the last laugh as he literally ended the Thunder's season on Tuesday with a game-winning step-back three-pointer from 37 feet out. The Blazers guard also gave George and company a not-so-discreet goodbye wave following his series-clinching buzzer-beater, so there is no doubt that Lillard has won this series in all aspects.
Portland will now wait for the winner of the Denver Nuggets and San Antonio Spurs series, which will determine who they will face in the second round.
