Portland Trail Blazers guard Damian Lillard will not be able to play this Wednesday against the Memphis Grizzlies because of a perfectly understandable reason. According to Chris Haynes of ESPN, sources have told him that Lillard will be flying home to attend to the birth of his child.
ESPN Sources: Damian Lillard will fly home for the birth of his child after just dropping 41 points and leading Portland to a win in New Orleans. He will miss Wednesday’s game at Memphis.
If Lillard was feeling anxious about this important development in his personal life, then he did an amazing job of hiding it during Tuesday night’s 107-103 road victory against the New Orleans Pelicans. The All-Star point guard dropped a game-high 41 points on 18-for-33 shooting from the field with three three-pointers and nine rebounds, six assists, and four steals without turning the ball over. Lillard’s performance helped the Blazers negate the 36-point production of Pelicans big man Anthony Davis.
The arrival of his first child will also come at a time when the Blazers are in serious contention of at least a Western Conference title. Portland improved its record to 46-28 following the win against New Orleans, which also expanded the Blazers lead for the third spot in the West to 2.5 games.
