The Portland Trail Blazers could be in search of a new head coach after a first-round playoff exit, and Jason Kidd seems to be at the top of their wish list.
Chris Haynes of Yahoo Sports reported Kidd, who is gaining traction as a head coaching candidate, is a guy the Blazers could be targeting with current head coach Terry Stotts likely on the way out:
“Kidd — who was previously a head coach in Brooklyn and Milwaukee — is expected to interview for the Boston Celtics head coach opening and is expected to be a top target of the Portland Trail Blazers with the anticipation that Terry Stotts will be relieved of his duties after nine seasons with the team, sources said,” Haynes wrote.
Haynes' report was later corroborated by Marc Stein of the New York Times, who said there is “strong buzz” Kidd will be the Blazers' No. 1 choice if a coaching change is made.

Kidd has also been linked to the Boston Celtics with Brad Stevens moving into a new role as president of basketball operations. The former All-NBA point guard has been on Frank Vogel's staff as an assistant with the Los Angeles Lakers for the past two seasons.
The Blazers face something of an uncertain future after the playoff loss to the Denver Nuggets put a stamp on a disappointing season. Star point guard Damian Lillard had cryptic posts on social media after Thursday's loss, calling into question his feeling about remaining in Portland.
Perhaps Lillard and his Blazers teammates would be encouraged by the hiring of a fiery personality like Kidd, who previously had head coaching stints with the Brooklyn Nets and Milwaukee Bucks.
