Iowa State point guard Tyrese Haliburton, who was selected with the 12th overall pick by the Sacramento Kings in the 2020 NBA Draft, got the opportunity to live out his dream with an invite to professional hoops.

Shortly after he was drafted, Haliburton got a shoutout on Twitter from no less than Lakers legend Magic Johnson, who thanked his father for being a fan of his and even gave him a new nickname: Little Magic.

Understandably, the 20-year-old was surprised after being recognized by one of the game's greatest players.

Haliburton, who played two seasons with the Cyclones before declaring for the draft, definitely hopes to meet and not just interact with Johnson on social media and have a chance to learn from the five-time champion.

In 22 games for Iowa State, Haliburton averaged 15.2 points, 5.9 rebounds, 6.5 assists, and 2.5 steals, while shooting 50.4 percent from the field and 41.9 percent from beyond the arc.

He was actually projected to be much higher in mock drafts leading to the draft, but he surprisingly fell outside the top 10, and the Kings were able to pick up the do-it-all guard with the 12th overall pick and will now have the chance to pair him up with rising star point guard De’Aaron Fox.

The young point guard, who is 6-foot-5 and has a 6-foot-8 wingspan, hopes to help turn the fortunes of a Kings team that has not made the playoffs in 14 years and is coming off a season where they finished with a 31-41 record.
