With the NBA trade deadline drawing near, the Sacramento Kings are among the teams looking to fortify their roster for the second half of the 2018-19 NBA season. It appears they may be in search of some help on the wing considering their interest in Dallas Mavericks small forward Harrison Barnes and Washington Wizards small forward Otto Porter Jr.
Both players have been put up for grabs by their teams at the deadline. According to Kevin O'Connor of The Ringer, the Kings could reportedly be looking to make a deal for Barnes or Porter:
The Kings have $37 million in expiring deals, including Zach Randolph ($11.7 million) and Iman Shumpert ($11 millon), and $11 million in cap room. Sacramento has made calls about Mavericks forward Harrison Barnes and Wizards forward Otto Porter Jr., though they’ve made no traction in a trade for Porter, according to league sources.
Sacramento has undoubtedly been one of the most surprising teams in the league this season at 28-25. It seems they may be looking to capitalize on their early success by bolstering their roster with a starting-caliber player. Both players would be welcome additions to this Kings' roster looking to remain in the playoff hunt.
Unfortunately, the update indicates that Sacramento is going to have a tough time prying Porter away from Washinton. Despite their recent woes, the Wizards seem content with keeping their core group intact. This could make Barnes a much more likely option considering the Mavs willingness to deal as of late. It is no secret that they are headed in a new direction following their blockbuster trade for big man Kristaps Porzingis.
