Manu Ginobili is the biggest thief in the San Antonio area. Of course, we are strictly talking about his activity on the basketball court. During Thursday night’s home game against the Oklahoma City Thunder, Ginobili reached a new milestone in his decorated career, as he became the new all-time steals leader for the Spurs.

The 40-year-old Ginobili entered the Thunder game needing a steal to tie David Robinson (1,388) for the all-time franchise record and two swipes to supplant the legendary Spurs big man atop the list. The record-setting steal by Ginobili occurred early in the second quarter during a botched pick-and-roll play the Thunder duo of Raymond Felton and Jerami Grant.

Prior to this game, Manu Ginobili had not registered a steal in the Spurs’ past three games, but at least the Olympic gold-medalist managed to set the record with some games left in the season. Ginobili signed a two-year deal with the Spurs in 2017, but there is always the possibility that he will call it quits at the end of this season.
Ginobili’s role with the Spurs has gradually diminished over the past several years, but from time to time, he could turn back the clock and contribute to the team. On the season, Ginobili is averaging 8.7 points, 2.5 assists, and 2.1 rebounds per game. Perhaps more what he could bring to the court, it’s his experience and leadership which the Spurs value the most at this point of his career. T
Ginobili is also now 58th in the NBA all-time in career steals.
