Gregg Popovich and Michael Malone led their respective teams in coming out with a strong message ahead of Tuesday's matchup between the San Antonio Spurs and the Denver Nuggets. Players locked arms at the center of the court during the playing of the national anthem as their show of solidarity for the tragic death of 20-year-old Daunte Wright in Brooklyn Center, Minnesota.

Wright was tragically shot and killed by a police officer during a traffic stop on Sunday and the incident has once again sparked controversy throughout the nation. The Spurs and the Nuggets showed their support for the family and friends of Daunte Wright with this powerful gesture in mid-court (h/t Bleacher Report on Twitter):

Bodycam footage from the police officer who shot Wright has since been released by the Brooklyn Center Police. The officer was allegedly reaching for her taser as Daunte Wright tried to flee the scene but inadvertently drew her gun instead. The officer shot Wright just once, but this single bullet was enough to take the young man's life.

Protesters have taken to the streets to air their dismay in what many consider to be another act of violence by the police against the African American community. The Minnesota Timberwolves have likewise shown their solidarity with the community and decided to postpone their game on Monday against the Brooklyn Nets.

Never afraid to speak his mind, Popovich himself has come out with his own statement about the tragic incident, labeling the situation as “deplorable.”
