Danny Green is among some of the San Antonio Spurs players that are due for a major decision on his future.

The North Carolina product will make $10 million this upcoming 2018-19 season and become an unrestricted free agent next summer, giving the Spurs a closing window to try and sign him this offseason, or let him test the free agency waters in 2019.

Green is ultimately at the mercy of what the team decides to do financially, having an impending Kawhi Leonard extension as the major obstacle from all the other contracts in the roster.

“I’m taking some time. I don’t know what the decision is going to be,” Green told Jabari Young of the San Antonio Express-News. “It depends on the feedback I get from my agent and what I get back from the organization. I think they are taking some time as well to take a breath because so much has gone with the organization outside of the players with Pop (Gregg Popovich) and the draft stuff is going on. There is a lot to be processed and taken into account on both sides. Not just the player’s side but the organizational side.”

Asked if he'd like a long-term deal in San Antonio, Green didn't hesitate to put it out there, knowing how the market has panned unfavorably over the last couple of offseasons.

“That’s always an option,” said Green. “Long-term is always the key to being in the NBA as long as you can. The market is not what it was. Last summer, the money wasn’t thrown out there as much as it was. That has to be taken into account for everybody. But I think longevity is the key for must guys especially for guys that are getting older. … But there is a lot of options that come into play and (a long-term deal) has crossed my mind.”

Green's stats won't blow anyone out of their chair, with only 8.6 points, 3.6 rebounds, and 1.6 assists per game this season — but it is his tenacious approach to defense and ultimate commitment to following The Spurs Way which has made him a key cog in Gregg Popovich's equation.
