San Antonio Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich has been an adamant critic of President Donald Trump throughout his four-year term.
The United States House of Representatives is set to hold a vote Wednesday after introducing articles of impeachment against Trump for the second time in his presidency. Popovich said Tuesday supports impeachment:
“The fact that there’s going to be an impeachment beginning tomorrow is the least that we can do,” Popovich said, via Jeff Zillgitt of USA TODAY Sports. “I don’t have a lot of faith that the 25th Amendment is going to be invoked. This impeachment will say a lot. If anything, it will bring people together rather than be divisive. It will bring people together who may have thought a different way and realize what Trump can really do and what he really is. So I’m all for it. It’s a good move.”
Gregg Popovich has often chastised President Trump for his divisive rhetoric.

The former Air Force graduate said Trump is a danger to democracy in the U.S., particularly after last week's violence at the U.S. Capitol:
“As a citizen, what we all watched was horrific, and we all saw the lack of concern and incompetence on the part of our president, which is really sad,” Popovich said, via Zillgitt. “He is what he is, but what that does for our democracy and our country and our standing and our credibility, let alone the safety for all those people in the building, is just enough to fry your brain. It is something you can’t even conceive of.”
Gregg Popovich commended the likes of Wyoming GOP Rep. Liz Cheney for openly stating her support for impeachment, simultaneously criticizing members of Congress who opposed certification of the 2020 General Election.
There were some reports Tuesday suggesting Senate Leader Mitch McConnell supported impeachment. But with the inauguration of President-elect Joe Biden just one week away, it remains to be seen whether the Senate will convene to hold a vote, should the articles make it past the House floor.
