The San Antonio Spurs were hit with a bombshell lawsuit last week by a former team psychologist, who said Josh Primo exposed his genitalia to her nine different times, yet the organization didn’t take action until 10 months later. The accuser, Hillary Cauthen, said she had several meetings with GM Brian Wright but he ultimately ignored her requests to reprimand Primo.
Since the news dropped, there has been speculation about the security of Wright’s job. But as Spurs reporter LJ Ellis explained Monday, he’s in no danger of being fired:
“Regarding the lawsuit the Spurs are facing, the most interesting piece of intel I’ve received is regarding general manager Brian Wright. According to a source close to the Spurs, Wright is not in danger of being fired.”
“When asked specifically whether Wright’s job with the Spurs is safe, the source didn’t hesitate to answer directly: “Absolutely. Absolutely. Everything was handled with great care and concern.”
Gregg Popovich also spoke out on the allegations from Cauthen and her lawyer Tony Buzbee, making it clear he believes the Spurs would’ve treated this situation with the utmost professionalism:
“I would only add that anybody that has observed the Spurs over a very long period of time knows that an accusation like this would be taken very seriously,” Popovich said. “I’m absolutely confident in the men and women on the managerial staff who deal and are dealing with this, did so purposefully, efficiently, promptly, and did it with the utmost care for everybody concerned–the accuser, the accused, people in the organization to make sure everyone still felt comfortable and safe.”
No one is doubting what Primo did. That’s why he was let go, despite being their first-round pick from 2021. But, the Spurs are standing by their story when it comes to the seriousness of these allegations. As it stands, Wright should remain in charge.
