Head coaches Gregg Popovich and Steve Kerr have been often outspoken about social injustice and various political issues, which have arisen in the last few years — so often that fans have motioned for the two to run for office.

This idea took off last season when a group of fans was inspired to create a presidential campaign, whose website  www.popovichkerr2020.com sells all sorts of accessories and apparel, and has gotten backing from plenty of sponsors.

Asked of possibly running for office, Popovich took the modest route, arguing he shouldn't be the one spearheading the campaign.

“I should be his Vice,” Popovich told Melissa Rohlin of the San Jose Mercury News.

While they've been very clear about their disapproval of the current presidential regime and the various injustices that have plagued the country in recent years, Popovich notes he's at the job he wants to do right now.

“Both of us realize that we’re not built or qualified for such an office, nor do we desire it,” Popovich said.

Both coaches have a long story dating back to 1998, which was Kerr's first season with the San Antonio Spurs and Popovich's third season at the helm.

The two would go on to win their first NBA championship that season alongside talisman Tim Duncan, who had proven to make all the difference for the then-young coach.

Now at 69 years old, Popovich's voice is heard louder than most, as one of the most respected people in the profession, while Kerr has followed his blueprint by winning two championships in the last three seasons.
