J.J. Redick has proven to be one of the most cerebral talents of this NBA era, and his never-stopping basketball brain wasn't shut off even during the offseason.

At the midst of a Chris Paul departure in L.A. and a Clippers team that seemed committed to shuffling the pieces, Redick listened as the Philadelphia 76ers pitched him into a one-year balloon deal for his services.

If the 23 million reasons weren't enough, Redick had envisioned plays to run alongside the Sixers' talisman, Joel Embiid, and didn't waste time on trying them out with The Process.

“It is hard to catch him off guard, as his coach, Brett Brown of the Philadelphia 76ers, learned one night last summer. He was wooing Redick to the team and, as part of his pitch, he invited him onto the court with Joel Embiid, the team’s talented young center. It turns out Redick had armed himself ahead of the meeting with a mental dossier of plays he had envisioned running with the likes of Embiid. Redick, still wearing a blazer, picked and popped for jump shots, while Brown salivated at the possibilities for the team. “He’s as professional as anybody I’ve ever been around,” Brown said.”

Redick has put those plays to work this season, using Embiid as a 7-foot lineman to set screens for a barrage of threes that he's unleashed on the competition.

The 6-foot-4 shooting guard has had his best scoring season, averaging 16.7 points per game in his 12th season in the league, shooting over 40 percent from deep for the fourth straight season.
