Joel Embiid commented on the Boston Celtics' crowd after the Philadelphia 76ers' Game 1 loss. It wasn't as harsh as his comments to other players. But knowing Embiid, his comments are definitely jabs toward the crowd.

As posted by NBA TV, Embiid commented on the TD Garden atmosphere:

“It was okay. I think our fans are louder than that.”

Embiid noted that he likes that type of hostility as it elevates his game further. Just as he likes talking trash, Embiid also likes to take in the awful things that people say to him. But unlike others, the Sixers star absorbs the negative energy into a positive.

The Sixers lost in Game 1, 117-101. Embiid himself finished with 31 points, 13 rebounds, and five assists. He shot 57.1 percent from the field. He also drained two 3-pointers and shot 83.3 percent from the charity stripe.

It was a monster performance from the big man. The Celtics just had more firepower and experience. The Sixers kept it close through the first half. But come the third quarter, the Celtics managed to break away and bust open a huge lead.

This is just Game 1. A 1-0 lead in a playoff series doesn't really mean much. Besides, the history between the two teams goes a long way, back to the days of Wilt Chamberlain, Bill Russell, Julius Erving, and Larry Bird. 76ers head coach Brett Brown reflected on the rivalry, as reported by the Associated Press:

“I hope so,” Brown said. “I personally grew up with this rivalry, just right on your doorstep and just a big part of your basketball life as a young kid. It sure seems like both programs are heading into the right direction.”
