The free agency frenzy has begun with many notable names available on the open market immediately making the decision on the next chapter of their respective careers. Among those was former All-Star point guard Derrick Rose deciding to ink a one-year deal to stay with the Minnesota Timberwolves, according to Shams Charania of Yahoo Sports.

Rose had experienced a rollercoaster 2017-18 season that began with the Cleveland Cavaliers that saw him struggle to stay healthy through the first half of the year which contributed to him being dealt to the Utah Jazz prior to the trade deadline. He was shortly released by the Jazz following the move.

Despite that, he was picked up by the Minnesota Timberwolves as a late regular season addition to further stabilize their backcourt. In his limited time with the Timberwolves, Rose was a spark plug off the bench showing his ability to get to the rim with the primary role as the orchestrator of the offense for the second unit. He was a huge scoring asset in the playoffs in the first-round series against the Houston Rockets averaging 14.2 points on 50.9 percent from the field and 70 percent from 3-point range.

There is no question in terms of the talent that Rose possesses, but the concerns come into play with his health. Over the years, he has struggled to stay healthy as has dealt with persistent knee injuries that have limited his impact on the court.

This move also signals that the Timberwolves may be looking to move off point guard Tyus Jones as the arrival of Rose has removed him from his role of being the main backup point guard. Jones is entering the final year of his four-year rookie deal, which could see the team look to trade him at some point this offseason.
