The Minnesota Timberwolves may play shorthanded on Monday when they take on the Portland Trail Blazers, as Jimmy Butler remains officially listed as questionable. He is suffering from a back injury, and his availability for the game is still up in the air.

Butler was forced to leave their previous game versus the Phoenix Suns on Saturday because of the pain he was feeling. He returned later, but was visibly wincing and was not moving normally. The Timberwolves ultimately lost the match, 108-106, which was their second defeat in three games.

If there’s any good news for the Timberwolves at this point, no structural damage has been reported about Jimmy Butler’s injury, and he may just need additional rest to recover from it. There’s still a chance he could return to action on Wednesday against the Denver Nuggets or Saturday when they face the Suns once again.

Shabazz Muhammad is expected to see an uptick in his minutes on Monday if the All-Star forward would be given the night off. Head coach Tom Thibodeau may also go small and use Jamal Crawford or Tyus Jones more depending on matchups.
