With the stellar play of Kyle Lowry and MVP candidate DeMar DeRozan, the Toronto Raptors have suddenly captured the imaginations of many as they improved by leaps and bounds this season, currently sitting at the top of the East with an impressive 48-17 (win-loss) record.
While being at the top of the standings generates an increase in ticket and merchandise sales and media coverage, former Raptors All-Star Chris Bosh believes that Toronto is not getting the attention it deserves from media outfits outside of Canada.
Bosh, who last played for the Miami Heat in the 2015-2016 NBA season, has been an integral part of the growth of basketball in Canada as he has played for the Raptors for seven seasons while averaging 20.2 points, 9.4 rebounds and a block per game.
In a report by David Zarum of SportsNet, the two-time NBA champion aired out his frustrations about the lack of media coverage with regards to the Raptors' incredible season stating that they deserve every right to be talked about by major websites in America.
“That’s what’s messed up about playing in Toronto … they’re in first place in the East,” he said. “They’re three and a half games behind the best record in the NBA. Nobody’s even talking about it. C’mon! In this day and age where everybody watches their screens everywhere, nobody’s talking about the Raptors.”
The 33-year-old Bosh added that DeRozan who has been on a tear lately averaging 24.2 points, 5.2 assists, and 4.0 rebounds hasn't been given the credit he deserves saying that the latter and James Harden are the two best players in the league in right now.
As the regular season draws its conclusion later next month, Bosh is confident that DeRozan and the rest of the Raptors are primed to shock the league by making it to the NBA Finals this year, stating that they have all the tools necessary to make a run for the title.
“I think they can make the Finals,” he said. “They have the pieces, and they have the confidence and they’ve got that teammwork, and they’ve got the spirit of the city… if you have to go in there and win a game, good luck.”
