If there was ever a vote of confidence from a general manager to a head coach, it would be this one.
While talking to reporters on Monday, Toronto Raptors general manager Masai Ujiri had a bold statement about head coach Dwane Casey—he referred to Casey as the franchise's coach for the future:
Article Continues Below“Coach Casey is our coach for the future, that is very easy; that we can do in our sleep, I think.”
The Raptors are high on Casey and for good reason. Since being hired prior to the 2011-12 season, Casey has improved Toronto's win total every season. They won a franchise-record 56 games this year before falling to the Cleveland Cavaliers in six games during the Eastern Conference Finals.
The 59-year-old has a team option at $4 million for the upcoming season. However, the Raptors are currently working on an extension for their coach for the future.
