Rautins, 30, was a former second-round pick of the New York Knicks in the 2010 draft out of Syracuse. He played just five games in the NBA, all with the Knicks, and has spent the past seven years playing in Europe as well as the D-League. He’s spent the last two years playing for Turkish team Gaziantep.
With just 13 guaranteed contracts currently on the Raptors’ books, Rautins will have a legitimate chance to compete for a roster spot. He is a capable three-point shooter from the wing position, something the Raptors could still use more of even after signing C.J. Miles in free agency. Rautins would also add more depth to the shooting guard position behind All-Star DeMar DeRozan and Norman Powell.
Rautins, who is Canadian, has familial ties to Toronto and the Raptors. His father, Leo, was born in Toronto and has served as a broadcaster for the Raptors since the team’s formation in 1995.
