Toronto Raptors shooting guard Danny Green won his first championship back in 2014 when the San Antonio Spurs defeated LeBron James, Dwyane Wade, Chris Bosh and the Miami Heat. Every player usually says their first title is the most special for them.

Not Green, though, who says the Raptors' 2019 title is “special because it's for a country that's never done it before.”

“Definitely a harder road, tougher route to get through,” Green told Myles Dichter of CBS Sports Canada. “It was really tough man. It's special because it's for a country that's never done it before, a team that's never done it before, never been on that stage and a group of guys that's never been there before. Coaching staff as well, it was the first year for a lot of those guys, being head coaches, being on staff. So it was special.”

The Raptors trailed in every series during the Eastern Conference playoffs. When Toronto was down 0-2 to the Milwaukee Bucks in the Eastern Conference Finals, many pundits thought the Raptors were dead in the water.

Kawhi Leonard, though, wouldn't let the Raptors falter and had a playoff run for the ages. Green didn't shoot the ball the best during the 2019 postseason, but he made some timely shots during the Finals against the Golden State Warriors which helped the Raptors capture their first ever championship.

Green becomes an unrestricted free agent this summer. If Leonard stays in Toronto, Green likely will follow suit. If Leonard leaves, though, Green could test the open market.
