Toronto Raptors point guard Kyle Lowry is looking forward to bringing his leadership to the relatively young Team USA that will compete in the 2019 FIBA World Cup in China.

Lowry told Kristen Ledlow of NBA TV that he is looking forward to using his experience to lead USA Basketball to success this summer. He pointed out that he gained a lot of confidence during his stint with the national team in the 2016 Summer Olympics and in his recent title run with the Toronto Raptors last season.

“I think it is more of the leadership that I can bring to this team,” Lowry said. “In 2016, just getting that gold medal, and with winning a championship, and knowing how to stay level-headed no matter what – ups and downs, bad calls – I think that is the one thing that I can always bring to the team.”

Lowry, along with Harrison Barnes, are the only two players from the gold-medal winning 2016 Rio Olympics team who opted to play for the national squad this summer. The Raptors floor general did not play in the USA Basketball intra-squad scrimmage on Friday, as he is still recovering from a thumb surgery performed last month. He is expected to resume training with the team next week.
