It's been a splendid year for Utah Jazz rookie sensation Donovan Mitchell. And as the season comes to a close, Mitchell added another milestone to his already-impressive first year as a professional.

In their game against the Golden State Warriors, Mitchell nailed a 3-pointer in the third quarter. The three proved to be historic as it passed none other than Stephen Curry for second-most 3-point field goals by a rookie in NBA History.

Along with his athletic ability, it is safe to conclude that the 3-point shot is part of Mitchell's arsenal. Past games have proven that he can nail the three either pulling up, catching and shooting, or stationary.

His numbers will definitely improve as he learns more about the game. But for his first year in the league, he's logging in 20.3 points a night, along with 3.6 assists and 3.7 rebounds. If it's not impressive just yet, he's also shooting 33.5 percent from downtown.

He's in the running for the Rookie of the Year award. Yet the odds seem to be in favor of Ben Simmons of the Philadelphia 76ers. For Mitchell, the award doesn't mean much, though, as reported by Adam Figman of Slam:

“I can care less [about the award]. The biggest thing right now is making a playoff push. I really love competing. I don’t wanna be at home watching it, saying, Man, we should be there.”

The Utah Jazz are eighth in the West with a 42-32 record. It is a surprise to many, especially after their star Gordon Hayward was sent to Boston. Many felt that the Jazz were off the rebuilding mode this season. Whether or not the Jazz make it to the playoffs this year, their future certainly looks bright. Mitchell's only mission is to get better.

“Coming in, people didn’t say I had that high of a ceiling,” Mitchell adds. “Obviously I’ve seen that their feelings have changed. I really don’t base it off what other people say I can or can’t be. It’s a matter of how much I wanna work.

“I think I can be as good as I allow myself to be.”
