Utah Jazz star Donovan Mitchell was a picture of disappointment following his team's heart-breaking Game 7 loss to the Denver Nuggets on Tuesday night.
After the defeat, the 23-year-old opened up about how he came to a decision to join his team inside the bubble despite the significant health risk.

I couldn’t make it all about myself,” Jazz star Donovan Mitchell told Chris Haynes of Yahoo Sports. “There are younger guys who aren’t established in this league and needed this time to show their value. It would have been selfish of me to stand in the way of that.”
Mitchell was one of the more prominent names that were rumored to be hesitant in taking part in the Disney World bubble prior to the season restart. Aside from actually contracting the coronavirus months prior, the 6-foot-1 guard's primary concern was his upcoming contract extension. Mitchell then went on to share how his faith helped him arrive at his decision to join his team:
“I couldn’t let my contract get in the way of the bigger picture. I had to rely on God,” the Jazz star continued. “If I got hurt, it was God’s will. But I put my trust in Him and didn’t worry about potentially getting injured. That allowed me to go out there and play. My faith was in God.”
Donovan Mitchell will be entering the final year of his rookie-scale deal in the coming season. He is expected to sign a big-money extension with the Jazz this offseason, and thankfully for him, he did not sustain any serious injury during the bubble which would have potentially jeopardized his upcoming deal.
