Utah Jazz second-year shooting guard Donovan Mitchell suffered a hamstring strain in Wednesday night's road loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves and didn't play near the end of the game.
The Jazz announced Thursday that Mitchell won't play Friday against the Memphis Grizzlies. He is being listed as day-to-day.
Mitchell (right hamstring tightness) was examined Thursday by the Utah Jazz medical staff and underwent magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) testing and the MRI was negative. Mitchell will be out for tomorrow’s game against Memphis.
In seven games this season, Donovan Mitchell is averaging 23.3 points, 2.4 rebounds and 4.4 assists while shooting 44.6 percent from the field, 36.0 percent from beyond the arc and 77.8 percent from the free-throw line. The Jazz are currently 4-3 on the young season.

In 79 games during his rookie year, Donovan Mitchell averaged 20.5 points, 3.7 rebounds, and 3.7 assists per game while shooting 43.7 percent from the field, 34.0 percent from the 3-point line and 80.5 percent from the free-throw line. He made the All-Rookie team and led the Jazz to the second-round of the 2018 NBA playoffs.
Utah defeated the Oklahoma City Thunder in the first-round in six games, but lost to the Houston Rockets in the Western Conference Semifinals in five games.
Hamstring injuries are really tricky to deal with. One minute you feel healthy, and then the next minute the hamstring starts to flare up again. It's a long NBA season and the Jazz need a healthy Donovan Mitchell for the long-run if they want to make some noise in the rugged Western Conference.
Any NBA team can win on any given night, but it's safe to say the Jazz can beat the Grizzlies without the services of Mitchell.
